お赤飯 Sekihan


我が家では赤ちゃんが生まれてお祝です。
お赤飯を炊きました。

もち米は山形のヒメノモチ。
地元でとれたササゲを入れて、庭のナンテンの枝を添えました。


Sekihan (literally "red rice")is the rice
boiled together with red beans such as Sasage or Azuki,
which give a reddish color to the rice, hence its name.
It is a Japanese traditional dish especially cooked for celebration.

My brother got his first baby in January.
We had a family party to celebrate.

The rice is Himenomochi brand from Yamagata Pref.,
and the black-eyed pea is from a neighbor farm.

My mum added Nandina leaves that grew in our garden.
Nandina is called as "Nanten" in Japanese,
which means "turning bad luck".



お赤飯にはお澄ましを。
ホウレンソウと卵です。

For Sekihan, the soup is the clear soy sauce taste soup
with egg and spinach.
