ポンカン Ponkan~Mandarine Orange
ポンカンです。愛媛産。
ふつうのみかんよりも、ころっとした食感で
食べた感じはさっぱりしてます。
でも味は濃く、おいしいです。
きんちゃくみたいな形もかわいい。
もとはインド産なのですね。
Ponkan, mandarine orange is a member of the tangerine family.
The ones I ate today are from Ehime Pref.,
but it is Indian origin,they say.

安納芋 Sweet potato Anno
安納芋の蒸かしイモ。
濃い黄色があたたかそうでしょ。
ねっとりしていて甘いです。
サラダにしてもさらに美味。
Steamed sweet potato Anno.
Anno potato is from Tanegashima island, southern Japan.
It is nice for salad as well.

はなびら餅 Hanabiramochi
はなびら餅です。
もともとは京都でお正月にだけいただく伝統のお菓子の一つです。
今は全国で食べられますね。
非常~~に上品。
柔らかいお餅に白味噌のあんをごぼうといっしょに包んであるお菓子です。
正しくは菱葩餅(ひしはなびらもち)というそうです。
Hanabiramochi is one of the traditional new year sweets in Kyoto.
White miso and burdock root are wrapped in the soft skin made of rice.
So elegant.

こんにゃくの煮物 Boiled Konjac
こんにゃくの煮物です。
このこんにゃくは埼玉県秩父地方のもの。
しっかりとした歯ごたえでおいしいです。
Boiled konjac seasoned with the soy sauce,
from Chichibu region, Saitama.
Japanese konnyaku is made by mixing konjac flour with water and limewater.

カブの漬物 Pickled turnip
カブの漬物です。
漬物にすると丸い部分は
やわらかくなって
独特の風味があり、
葉っぱはカルシウムも多く
しゃきしゃき。
ちょっと古漬けになって
酸味が出ているところが
また美味。
The white root of the turnip is soft when pickled,
and taste something special..
The leaves are a good source of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, folate and calcium.

にゅうめん Nyuumen Noodle
にゅうめんです。
蛤入り。
にゅうめんって、あまりなじみがなく、
何??と思っていたのですが、
温かくして食べる素麺だそうで。
冬にはもってこい。
あたたまりました。
Nyuumen are the Somen
cooked in the warm soup.
Somen are very thin and white noodle,
usually served cold and eaten in summer.
But it is nice to eat warm noodles
in winter!
The clams on the photo are
the common orient clam.

うさぎのおまんじゅう Rabbit cake
2011年は卯年。
うさぎのグッズもたくさん出ていますが、
おまんじゅうもありました。
チョコ風味です。
見た目もとってもかわいいですが
味もほんわかする感じ。

chocolate flavor.

ほうれん草 Spinach
ほうれん草のおひたしです。
鰹節をかけて、お醤油をつけるのが我が家の定番。
鉄分補給の味方ですね。

練りきり Nerikiri cake
鶴の練りきり。(Nerikiri cake shaped the crane)
練りきりは高級な和菓子。
生菓子で、柔らかい、上品な甘さですね。
しかも、季節の彩りをふんだんに取り入れて、
芸術的、とても美しいです。

It is elegant and beautiful designed to look like various seasonal characters.
こちらは亀(This means the tortoise)。

おせち料理 Osechi-ryōri
我が家のおせち料理です。
野菜のお煮しめとかまぼこ各種。
Osechi-ryōri are traditional Japanese New Year foods.
At my home, we simmer vegetables with soy sauce.
レンコン(lotus root)、さといも(taro)、
ニンジン(carrot)、こんにゃく(konnyaku~devil's tongue)、
ごぼう(burdock root)、しいたけ(shiitake mashroom)。
And some of Kamaboko.(processed fishfood product).
黒豆(Kuro-mame), black soybeans.
Mame also means "health," symbolizing a wish for health in the New Year.
豆のきんとんです。(Sweet bean paste)
そして、酢ダコ。(Pickled octpus)

お雑煮 Ozouni
お雑煮です。
我が家のお雑煮は野菜などで具だくさん。
お餅は四角、お醤油味のシンプルなお雑煮です。
Ozouni, the rice-cake soup is the special dish
for the New Year's Day.
Ozoni has different tastes from region to region.
