柏餅 Kashiwamochi

柏餅です。
5 月5日の端午の節句の 供物。

カシワの葉は新芽が育つまでは古い葉が落ちないことから、「子孫繁栄（家系が途切れない）」の意味があるのだとか。

May 5th was traditionally a festival for boys known as Tango no Sekku.
There are some customs associated with the day.
These include bathing with iris leaves in the water
and eating rice cakes wrapped in Kashiwa leaves called kashiwamochi.
They say Kashiwa leaves never fall until the new leaves grow, represents fertility.
